Jacob Sibi-Okumu is a composer, arranger, instrumentalist, writer and music producer. He got his Bacherlor’s degree in Contemporary writing and production at the Berklee college of music. He produced the music for the movie “Autism through my lens” in collaboration with The Spotlight program. He is an arranger, co-producer and guitarist at the YouTube channel “Japanese Kids Songs” in collaboration with Taiga Kunii. Jacob is also featured on the Japanese artist Taiga’s song “Over”, and has composed, arranged, produced and played on the award-winning piece “Elements”, featuring the French singer Nathalie Vairac. Jacob’s musical expressions are outstanding and diverse – arranger for “Pablo Zieler meets Berklee” concert, composer and co-writer for the book for the musical “2063” as part of the porject “Nairobi Musical Theatre Initiative” of the well-known Nairobi musician Eric Wainaina, etc. Jacob is a member and a guitarist of “The Change Experience” – an afro-fusuion jazz intrumental group, established by the renowned Kenyan guitarist Kato Change; part of the instrumental trio “Kabon” with Kato Change (guitar) and Aaron Colverson (violin); solo guitarist of different Kenyan musicians like Athieno, Maya von Lekow, Njoki Karu, Jason Sibi-Okumu and Wambura Mitaru. He was part of the concert “A celebration of Sudanese music” featuring the famous Sudanese musicians Emmanuel Jal, Asim Gorashi, Mohamed Tahir and Abu Araki Elbakheet.
Jacob is the lead guitarist of the award-winning Madagascarian singer Niu Raza as well as the popular American singer Naika. He’s been teaching guitar and ukulele for over 5 years and composition for over 8 years, using non-standart teaching techniques.
